Salt Spring Spice · East Syracuse, New York
Smoke meets the forge.
Iron Pier No. 2 and Black Forge No. 4— two bold blends built for browned edges, deep savory flavor, and food that deserves a little fire.
Iron Pier brings cherrywood smoke, maple warmth, chile, and savory spice. Black Forge answers with garlic, mushroom-rich depth, applewood smoke, and that unmistakably dark steakhouse finish. Grill optional. Appetite recommended.
Two blends. Two very different kinds of bold. Iron Pier is smoky, warm, and lightly sweet. Black Forge is dark, savory, mushroom-rich, and built for crust. Together, they cover a whole lot more than grilling.
Inside the Bundle
Fire on one side. Forge on the other.
One brings smoky maple warmth. The other brings deep steakhouse intensity. Use them separately and you've got range. Keep both beside the stove and things start getting interesting.
Iron Pier
Cherrywood Smoke & Maple Blend
Cherrywood smoke, maple sugar, smoked paprika, chile, garlic, mustard, and savory spice create warm cookout-style flavor with a lightly caramelized finish. It brings the smoke without turning dinner into a bonfire.
Best on: burgers, pork, chicken, ribs, carrots, potatoes, sandwiches, and sheet-pan dinners.
Black Forge
Forged Steakhouse Blend
Garlic, onion, shiitake mushroom, applewood smoke, and a dramatic charcoal-dark finish give Black Forge its deep steakhouse personality. This is the jar for crust, cast iron, and unapologetically savory food.
Best on: steak, burgers, mushrooms, potatoes, vegetables, sandwiches, and cast-iron meals.
Why Pair Them?
Because smoky and savory aren't the same thing.
Iron Pier brings warmth. Black Forge brings depth.
These aren't two versions of the same seasoning. Iron Pier leans smoky, lightly sweet, and grill-inspired. Black Forge is deeper, saltier, mushroom-rich, and unmistakably steakhouse. That difference is exactly what makes the bundle useful.
From the Salt Spring Kitchen
Give dinner some edges.
Both blends love heat. The goal isn't to burn dinner— it's to give the seasoning enough heat to toast, caramelize, and build the kind of browned edges everybody steals off the pan.
Season the patties right before cooking and let the maple and smoke help build a deeply browned crust.
Season generously, sear hard, and leave the steak alone long enough for the crust to actually happen.
Rub pork chops or tenderloin with a little oil and Iron Pier, then roast or grill until browned.
Brown mushrooms in butter, add Black Forge toward the end, and try not to eat half the pan before dinner reaches the table.
Roast carrots with oil and Iron Pier until the maple catches around the edges.
Toss potatoes with oil and Black Forge, roast hot, and don't pull them until those edges are properly crisp.
Important Public Service Announcement
You do not need a grill.
Despite the name, this bundle does not require sunshine, propane, charcoal, or standing outside while mosquitoes declare war on your ankles. Both blends work beautifully indoors.
The Grilling Bundle
Two blends for the dinners that need a little fire.
Iron Pier and Black Forge ended up together because they both love browned food— but they get there in completely different ways.
Iron Pier gives me that smoky, slightly sweet cookout flavor I want on burgers, pork, chicken, and vegetables. Black Forge is what I reach for when I want the flavor deeper, darker, and more savory.
They're the two jars for nights when plain chicken isn't going to cut it, potatoes need a proper crust, or somebody decided burgers were the only acceptable answer to dinner.
And once they're in your kitchen, I hope you find uses I haven't even thought of yet. That's half the fun of seasoning: the recipe may start here, but what you do with it is yours.
